Senior Spares Specialist (Telecommunications)

A new role has become available for our client, a top ranking employer in South Africa in the telecommunications sector. The Senior Spares Specialist will be tasked with managing the availability of maintenance and capacity upgrade spares, including related supply chain support requirements and control stock that includes the management of stock levels and reconcile assets within the region. This will include ensuring the availability of maintenance and capacity upgrade spares, implementing stock optimization strategies, management procurement and transportation, inventory management, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managing availability of maintenance and capacity upgrade spares
  • Managing related supply chain support requirements
  • Co-ordinating stock control, which includes managing stock levels and reconciling assets within the region
  • Taking accountability for ensuring the availability of maintenance and capacity upgrade spares in line with operational requirements
  • Implementing strategies to optimise stock levels and prevent shortages
  • Managing related supply chain support requirements for spares, including procurement, transportation, and inventory management
  • Collaborating with supply chain teams to streamline processes and ensure timely delivery of spares
  • Implementing inventory control measures to minimise waste and optimise storage
  • Taking responsibility for reconciling assets within the region, ensuring accurate records of spares and their movements
  • Conducting regular audits and reconciliations to maintain data integrity
  • Collaborating with vendors to negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules for spares
  • Ensuring adherence to quality standards and establishing effective vendor relationships
  • Co-ordinating receiving, documentation, storage, and shipping of materials
  • Performing weekly cycle counts and monthly physical inventories to verify inventory levels in company systems

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in a relevant field
  • At least 5 to 8 years’ experience in inventory and stock control
  • Above experience must include managing spare parts
  • Strong technical background and understanding of the telecoms industry
  • Strong technical knowledge of telecoms equipment and spare parts
  • Familiarity with equipment specifications and spare part compatibility
  • Proficiency in inventory management, forecasting and supply chain
  • Negotiation skills to effectively deal with vendors
  • Ability to assess vendor performance and make recommendations
